ConnectED Open Meeting - Using Teacher Blogs for Appraisal

Image
This evening I ran a table session about using a blog for appraisal. The things I covered are: Posting-   When posting, I look at my labels and think what do I need to post about to show I am meeting the Registered Teacher's Criteria.  We discussed how much and what to include in a post.  How to add a link in a post. How to add a video in a post. Labels- Where to find labels. How to add labels. How to create a new label. The thought of adding Tataiako links to the labels section.  If you are a lead teacher in an area, labels for posts about evidence of this.  You may use more than one label for a post. Schedule- Where to find the schedule posts. How to use schedule post. We created a post right then and there and added labels to them. We also added blogs to our reading lists.

Letters to the teacher

At the beginning of the year this student would cry and want her brother. She couldn't talk to me and assessing her was particularly difficult. I have built a relationship with her over the year and she is coping better during assessment situations or I have adapted how I assess her to get a true record of her knowledge. When gathering the data for her 6 year observation survey I also tested another child at the same time for the writing vocabulary part of the assessment. She was able to write more words than in a 1-1 situation with me.  She comes to me each day wanting to spell more and more words and I always find the new words in the cards she makes for me.

EduCamp The Tron

Today I attended an awesome PL in the form of an EduCamp. It was great to see so many people there. The day always begins with a smackdown. The smackdown from  EduCampTheTron  is worth having a look at. There are a few slides I would like to review, International dot day, Five card flicker stories and Screen castify. I attended a session on class dojo which I had heard mentioned at our last Incredible years session. I set up an account for my class but I think I will put it on hole until my Master's student has finished her placement in our class. Too tricky to introduce a new management system. I am also questioning it's relevance to my learners and had thought it may have offered more than what I have seen so far. Am thinking of ways I can have conversations with the whanau about their child's learning. I attended another PL session part way through and downloaded screen castify which I think will be handy one day. Something for another day. Something to take back to scho...
