Geometry    geo  - means the earth, metry  means measure. Measuring physical features. Set geometry and measurement together. Level 1- Make sure we give children lots of versions of the shape. Octagon activity. 8 sided shapes. What makes a shape? Start with the real objects then find the properties. Things aren't static- compare roller, to clock, and ball. Notice things in their environment. Talk about form and function before naming shapes. Develop a child's ability to think and act instead of giving the names of shapes. Money is good for many things in maths but not crossing the decade because the tens don’t look like ten ones. Use the tens frames- We are working in the chocolate biscuit factory. Does this packet have ten in it? Never mind someone must have eaten them.        Can you put the remaining biscuits in it? While a students is addi...
