Incredible Years - Session 1

Image
I have added the notes from my first incredible years course session. I have actioned some things from my notes as shown by the ticks beside them.  I like to take my own digital notes so I can go back to them and revisit what I could work on. I am more inclined to reflect when I am able to check on my phone what I thought I'd try.  I have worked hard on building positive relationships.

Reading eggs

Tonight I logged in to a webinar for Reading eggs . Reflectively I wasn't ready for the information it was giving. The session was based around older readers and their comprehension. However it motivated me to look online and see if there were videos available for my area of need and sure enough what I needed was all there. I am looking forward to setting some time aside to watch so I can use Reading eggs effectively. I can see the many benefits of the parts I am already using. I have changed my planning for next week (Term 1 week 8) to include sessions with the class to teach them how to use reading eggs on the iPads and class computers.

Art Professional Learning

We were let loose to explore different mediums of art. We looked at different artists and were able to experiment with materials we may not have used before. I enjoyed adding lots of elements to mine. Dye, chalk pastels and some straw for a bit of texture and interest. I love how we all interpreted the task so differently and even created different perspectives of the model hen.

Reading Professional Learning with Cathy

I am learning to teach new readers so this was extremely helpful PL.  Here are my thoughts and reflections for ideas to try.  Have you got any suggestions for new readers?  Look at the texts and books that you are asking your children to read. Some books are asking too much if they don't have footholds for the reader.  "Reading is about looking at the words"-Cathy A reminder to ask myself- What are the children's needs? What are the footholds in security?  Teach a word and have it in each book that they take for that week, the big book, poem of the week.  Make into games- matching the cards, write it outside in chalk.  Build a print rich environment. Have words everywhere. Wow words from the big book or high frequency words.  Revisit what you have taught. Challenge the children to remember what they have learnt.
