Ko au- I am

I have been taking moments to build relationships- asking the questions that are important to my students, listening to their stories and sharing mine with them. Conversations are important. Somethings I have been asking:  What are you doing this weekend? What do you like to do when you are not at school?  What will you do when you go home?

Inquiry 2018

We met to discuss where we are at and where we are going. I got a few more ideas after talking with my professional learning group. Just saying out loud what you are doing leads for conversations to support and build on original ideas. I added my direction to my inquiry document.

Connections with families

Inclusive Education Gaylene pointed us in the direction of some resources to support our Pasifica and Māori students. We have a responsibility to support them and develop their culture in our classrooms. How are we meeting their needs, how do we make our class more supportive to help bridge the gap, how do we bring their experiences to the class- writing about cooking with their families. Indicators for building community: Everyone is made to feel welcome. Students help each other. Staff collaborate with each other. Staff and students treat one another with respect. There is a partnership between staff and parents/carers. Staff and governors work well together. All local communities are involved in the school.  We make sure we welcome children in many languages so they can connect to their language. Allow opportunities for them to speak in their language.
