Printing a landscape Doc from Google Docs

Image
Our school has moved our planning to Google Docs. I am so happy about planning this way as I have been using Google Docs for my planning for sometime now. This means I don't need to print my planning and I can annotate it digitally. During the implementation of Google Docs in our school I have worked with my team to support the teachers that I work closely with. We have discovered that when we do print our planning we need change the printer settings if the doc is landscape. Below is the information I shared for how to print a landscape doc. 1. First you select File then Print; 2. Once you have selected print you need to click Print using system dialog; 3. This will open a window that looks like the picture below. You will need to select the orientation that I have circled below. After all of those steps your document will be ready to send to the printer  by finally clicking the print button. One last tip is that if you are printing you may wish to select the pages you want to prin...

Ahh ha moment

Image
Last Term I spent time with the children teaching them to sketch after I was reenergised from our Art Pl. I went along teaching them about talking, whispering and shouting lines. I patiently offered lots of opportunities for them to sketch. We practiced our different lines and drew objects in the environment. Well today I had an ahh ha moment.. With no introduction a child piped up with "Hine, I'm drawing talking lines!" Yahoo we are sketching and talking in sketching language. This was so exciting to hear.

Will Hine be at my new school?

I have had two students move to new schools and it has really showed me the strength of relationships. I pride myself on building positive relationships with all students so to hear from both families that have moved schools really shows that I was important to both of the children. On our first day back Child A couldn't start her new school because she had to come and see me to say good bye. She came running to find me on duty and I was welcomed with a delightful hug. She then followed me around telling me stories. I will miss her. Child B wasn't able to come to the class but his Nana told me he asked, "Will Hine be at my new school?" Bless. If only my dear. There are children that you just don't like to see go. I am so lucky to be a part of these children's lives and grateful that they have enjoyed having me as their teacher. Below is a picture of my baby playing during a wet lunchtime.

Our class treaty

We listened to the book  The Treehut Treaty by Wiremu Grace.  Our class talked about the Treaty of Waitangi and it's importance to New Zealand. We thought really hard about what we might need to include in our class treaty so we can all learn together.  This is our class treaty.  We will revisit this again and again. I am going to provide an opportunity for the children to role play using the treaty so they really understand it.
